The Challenge

No security team can be all-seeing and all-hearing even with the best CCTV system. Someone or something will always find your blind spot. The threats of crime and disruption are numerous and they are rising.

Safety
When vital pieces of safety equipment are damaged or stolen, lives can be lost or put in danger. Lone workers can be at risk when operating with valuable assets in remote locations.

Theft
Robbery is on the increase, with metals becoming more attractive to thieves. British Transport Police claims that metal theft has become an increasing issue following large price rises for copper and other metal on world markets. In 2006 they recorded 1,183 crimes, 1,886 in 2007 and 2,249 in 2008. Metal theft is currently estimated to cost Britain around £360m a year .

Vandalism

Northern Ireland Electricity claims that every year thousands of homes and businesses lose electricity supplies because of vandalism to the electricity network, and every year innocent members of the public are put at risk. In 2008 a single graffiti vandal in Scotland managed to cause over £270,000 worth of damage to trains and railway property.

Maintenance
The life of plant and equipment would be extended with proactive monitoring and timely maintenance but in real life this doesn't always happen.
